Black Horse Westerns - April 2013

The Proclaimers by Lee Clinton

978-0719807923

The very rich can buy justice by paying for vengeance - A drunken dispute between two young cowboys ends in a violent death. What follows is a vengeful father's spiteful desire for retribution by making a public proclamation that he will pay $10,000 to any person who will give him justice. However, a jury has acquitted the young man who shot his son of any wrongdoing. The family attorney, who was tasked to raise the proclamation that seeks Biblical justice of an eye for an eye, is so horrified by this vindictive act that he takes it upon himself to save the father from his own despicable behaviour. He enlists the help of Walter Garfield - a man whom some would say is well past his prime. But while Walt may be getting a little old and more than a little cantankerous, he is still a man of the Old West. As the last days of the nineteenth century come to a close, maybe, just maybe, this old ex-marshal is the only one who can save the young cowboy from those who will kill on sight just to get their hands on the vast reward that is on offer by proclamation.

Climax by C. J. Sommers

978-0719807435

There isn't much to the town of Climax, it's just another of those dusty, wind-blown communities biding its time until the desert reclaims it. The town has a saloon, of course, a restaurant and a tiny bank. It also has a town marshal named Giles Frost who seems an unnecessary expenditure. With the town of Climax not needing his services, Frost is let go to make his way out onto the desert with his horse and rifle - but that is the signal the gathering outlaw gang has been waiting for. They want Climax and mean to make it their hideout - an outlaw town without law where they rule the roost while honest citizens hide away in their homes. By the time word of this reaches Giles Frost and he determines to return to Climax - it will be one man against the hundred guns of a renegade army -

Hell-Bent by Corba Sunman

978-0709098997

Texas Ranger Matt Logan rides into Walnut Creek to end local trouble. He expects it to be a routine chore of law dealing, but from the moment of his arrival he is caught up in events with no chance of setting up a normal investigation. Logan has to kill a man before he can even stable his horse or get any idea of the local set-up - and the shooting seems to set the tone for the job. Life proves to be cheap in Walnut Creek - his own included - but he goes forward relentlessly, looking for the guilty, shooting those who wanted to kill him, and trying to save the innocent from the callous greed of the men ruling the country with merciless abandon.
